The Executive Director of Projects Implementation at the Federal Housing Authority, Remi Omowaiye, has accused Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke of instigating the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Omowaiye alleged that the governor was plotting to set the state on fire, citing the violent clashes between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which have reportedly left at least eight people dead.
The crisis escalated on Monday following an attempt by elected APC local government officials to resume office at various council secretariats.
Speaking on Arise TV on Wednesday, Omowaiye claimed he narrowly escaped death during the unrest. He said his vehicle was struck by multiple bullets, and both his security adviser and driver were shot.
“It is unfortunate that Governor Ademola Adeleke wants to burn down Osun State. We got a court judgment that was very clear, and our people were supposed to resume at the councils. I went to Ilesa to join some of our political associates,” he said.
According to Omowaiye, he alerted the Area Commander in Ilesa about the presence of suspected PDP hoodlums before heading to the APC secretariat to advise party members to disperse.
“On my way back to Osogbo, right in front of the secretariat, my vehicle was riddled with bullets. My security adviser was shot, and my driver was also shot. I narrowly escaped,” he recounted.
