The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed Governor Ademola Adeleke’s claim that his administration has created 250,000 jobs in the past two years.
Reacting through its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC described the claim as misleading, questioning why the governor has yet to employ teachers and health workers despite an urgent need in public schools and hospitals.
“Is it not funny and strange that Governor Ademola Adeleke, who could not employ teachers and health workers for three years, is now thinking it wise to recruit 10,000 Imole Youth Corps members? Olabisi stated.
He further alleged that many job seekers were deceived into purchasing employment forms under the current administration, yet have seen no signs of recruitment.
“Claiming 250,000 job opportunities in two years is a fake story. We sympathize with the applicant-teachers who have been waiting for three years with no hope of employment under Adeleke’s government”, he added.
Governor Adeleke had on Thursday announced that his administration had generated approximately 250,000 jobs, attributing the achievement to local content policies and financial support for businesses.
Speaking in Osogbo at the induction of 10,000 youths into the Imole Youth Corps, Adeleke said the initiative was part of his broader strategy to tackle unemployment.
“Our administration is focused on addressing the unemployment crisis. We recognize the widespread joblessness among youths. Our first decision is to create an enabling environment for job creation by both the government and the private sector”, he stated.
He explained that the Imole Youth Corps, which recruits youths from all 332 political wards in Osun, is designed to provide services in health, security, environment, and education while equipping participants with skills for long-term employment.
Adeleke also highlighted other job-creation strategies, including financial support for small businesses and infrastructural development. He revealed that over N4 billion had been allocated to a revolving loan scheme for grassroots entrepreneurs.
“Through our local content policy, financial access to businesses, and ongoing youth agropreneur programme, over 250,000 of our people have been provided job opportunities”, he added.
According to the governor, job creation efforts will be further expanded with the launch of an agropreneur project in each of the state’s 30 local government areas and area councils.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Moshood Olagunju, defended the administration’s employment strategies, assuring that a performance evaluation system would be implemented to assess the success of the Imole Youth Corps and other initiatives.
We are committed to transparency and results. The performance evaluation system will ensure that every initiative meets its objectives, Olagunju said.
