The Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Owa Old Boys Association, 2005, concluded in grand style yesterday, Sunday, January 26, 2025, with a Thanksgiving Mass at St. Mary’s Seminary, Umuowa.
Recall that the celebrations, which spanned three phases, began on January 2, 2025, with the first phase, and continued on January 19 at Bonus Pastor Seminary, Osina. During the second phase, the old boys unveiled the renovated Seminary Library which they undertook, and awarded scholarships to four students.
The final phase of the event kicked off yesterday at 10:00 AM with a concelebrated Mass in the Chapel of St. Mary’s Seminary, Umuowa, following the seminarians’ morning prayers. During the Mass, four additional seminarians were awarded scholarships, and three projects executed by the Owa Old Boys Association, 2005, were unveiled.
In his remarks, the Rector of the Seminary, Rev. Fr. Albanus Ogowuihe, praised the 2005 set for their remarkable initiative, noting that it was the first time in the Seminary’s history that any alumni group had united in such a way to commemorate the anniversary of their entrance into the Seminary. He encouraged other alumni sets to follow this exemplary gesture, emphasizing that the scholarship program would significantly ease the burden on the parents of the recipients and the school.
The unveiled projects included three concrete seats strategically constructed near the Seminary football field. These seats are intended to provide comfort for seminarians watching matches and offer a serene spot for meditation due to their location in a quiet area of the field.
The celebration concluded with a lively football match between the old boys and the Seminary Team, which saw the Seminary Team triumph with a 3-1 victory.
