President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law a bill establishing the Federal University of Environmental Technology in Ogoni, Rivers State, further expanding Nigeria’s network of federal tertiary institutions.
Announcing the development on Monday via his verified X handle, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, described the move as a significant step toward addressing historical injustices and promoting inclusive national development.
Bwala emphasized that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda prioritizes equity and the creation of institutions to prevent regional neglect in developmental projects. He also highlighted that the university’s establishment aligns with the administration’s broader efforts to ensure balanced educational opportunities across different regions.
This development follows Tinubu’s recent approval of another federal university in Southern Kaduna, reflecting his commitment to national unity and inclusivity. Bwala noted that the president firmly believes that “there are no minority ethnicities in Nigeria,” reinforcing the ideals of unity enshrined in the national anthem.
“The Renewed Hope administration is focused on righting past wrongs and putting in place institutions to prevent future marginalization in development efforts,” Bwala stated.
He congratulated the people of Ogoni, noting that the university’s establishment would improve educational access and contribute to addressing the region’s longstanding environmental and socio-economic challenges.
