Troops have neutralised a suspected female spy linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) in Borno State and arrested 14 suspected criminals in coordinated operations across Nigeria.
According to operational reports released to the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday, the woman was detected via CCTV cameras as she approached a military position from the Sambisa axis. Troops of 222 Battalion at Forward Operating Base Kawuri in Konduga Local Government Area intercepted and neutralised her before she could reach the defensive perimeter.
In the Federal Capital Territory, personnel of Operation MESA arrested a deserter from 13 Brigade at a checkpoint in Bwari Area Council. A military uniform and a vehicle were recovered from the suspect. Troops also intercepted another vehicle carrying suspected stolen armoured cables and detained the driver for investigation.
In the South-East, troops of Operation UDO KA arrested five suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its Eastern Security Network (ESN) at Etuekwe Junction in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State. The suspects were apprehended at a secluded location believed to serve as a movement route for the group.
Separately, troops of 82 Division Garrison and 103 Battalion, working with other security agencies, arrested eight suspected cultists at Eha-Amufu in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State. Preliminary investigations linked the suspects to terrorist activities in border communities between Enugu and Ebonyi states. They have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and prosecution.
Troops conducting Operations Desert Sanity V, FANSAN YAMMA and Savannah Shield reported no major incidents in their areas of responsibility during the period under review.
