Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has approved the immediate recruitment of 6,030 teachers to fill vacancies and strengthen teaching in primary and secondary schools across the state’s 27 local government areas.
State Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy Declan Emelumba said the move forms part of the government’s broader efforts to improve the education sector. The newly recruited teachers have completed a six-week intensive training programme at the state-owned Ben Uwajimogu College of Education in Ihitte Uboma.
Emelumba described the exercise as the first large-scale injection of teachers into the school system in a long time. He said the recruitment was designed to eliminate existing gaps in teaching and learning.
To mark the importance the governor attaches to the exercise, Uzodimma will personally address the new teachers at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre in Owerri. The meeting is scheduled for 10am today and is restricted to those who took part in the training programme at Ihitte Uboma.
