Valentine Ozigbo, who recently defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed hope that Peter Obi will one day join him in the ruling party.
Obi, the LP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, had previously moved to the party from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Despite its strong performance in the election, LP has been embroiled in internal crises, leading to a wave of defections.
Ozigbo is among the latest to leave, citing the party’s persistent challenges. Speaking on Politics Today on Channels TV, he revealed that he informed key stakeholders, including Obi, before making his decision.
“I told him a few things, not about coming to the APC, but I would like to welcome him someday if he so desires,” Ozigbo said.
He also detailed his departure process, stating, “I engaged with everyone I needed to, as much as I could remember, to discuss the available options. I had a meeting with Peter Obi and told him, “I don’t see myself running in this election under the Labour Party, and I want to make a decision soon.”
Ozigbo further criticized LP’s internal processes, describing the party’s congress in Anambra State as “a charade, totally flawed”. He said he formally bid farewell to the party before making his move to the APC.
