The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has provided insight into President Bola Tinubu’s decision to create the Ministries of Livestock Development and Regional Development.
Speaking at the second edition of the Ministerial Briefing Session, Idris stated that the ministries, headed by Abubakar Eshiokpekha Momoh (Regional Development) and Alhaji Idi Mukhtar (Livestock Development) were established to unlock economic potential and enhance governance across the country.
Idris explained that the Ministry of Livestock Development, created in July 2024, aims to transform Nigeria’s multi-billion-dollar livestock sector into a key driver of economic prosperity.
Similarly, the Ministry of Regional Development, established in October 2024, is responsible for coordinating regional development commissions across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, ensuring balanced growth and targeted interventions.
“These two ministries are among the newest in the country. The Ministry of Livestock Development was established to turn Nigeria’s vast livestock resources into tangible economic benefits, while the Ministry of Regional Development is tasked with overseeing regional growth strategies,” Idris stated.
He assured Nigerians that both ministers had already begun work, adding that their presence at the briefing session was to update the public on their respective mandates and progress so far.
Idris also commended the media for their dedication in covering government activities, urging journalists to ensure fair and accurate reporting of the sessions.
“The media remain invaluable partners in informing Nigerians about the Tinubu administration’s achievements. However, reportage must be free of sensationalism, misinformation, and disinformation,” he said.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to public accountability, stating that updates from the briefing sessions would be widely disseminated across various media platforms to encourage public engagement and feedback.
