The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to retain Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate in the 2027 general elections, despite growing political pressure.
In a statement released through his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele cautioned the president against yielding to internal or external calls to drop Shettima, warning that doing so could worsen tensions in the political landscape, especially in the North.
“Tinubu’s re-election bid will trigger division in the North and cause widespread confusion,” the cleric stated. “To avoid blame and further complications, he must keep Shettima as his running mate, regardless of any fallout.”
However, Primate Ayodele foresees a strained relationship between the president and his vice, likening it to the infamous political rift between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
“He should prepare for a dirty political fight with Shettima,” Ayodele warned. “They will face serious disagreements, and this conflict could render the vice president politically irrelevant. The pressure might even push Shettima to withdraw from actively participating in governance.”
The cleric also sounded a note of caution regarding the influx of politicians from opposition parties into the All Progressives Congress (APC), suggesting it could backfire on Tinubu’s 2027 ambition.
“Those defecting to the APC now may pose more problems than solutions,” he noted. “Rather than boosting his chances, they could actually diminish them. President Tinubu needs to remain vigilant and tread carefully.”
