The Chairman of Rano Local Government Area in Kano State, Malam Naziru Ya’u, has called for a comprehensive investigation into the killing of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the area, CSP Muhammad Baba Ali, urging the police to ensure that the real culprits are brought to justice.
Following the violence that erupted in the town after the death of a 25-year-old youth, Abdullahi Musa, the chairman commended the police for making swift arrests but emphasized the need for a detailed and transparent investigation to avoid wrongful detention of innocent individuals.
In a statement to newsmen on Wednesday, Ya’u condemned the violent protest that followed the incident and appealed to residents to remain calm. He also warned that the local government would not tolerate acts of social disorder or lawlessness.
According to reports, the unrest began after a confrontation between the late Abdullahi Musa and the DPO. The situation escalated when enraged youths attacked the Rano Divisional Police Station, allegedly setting it on fire and damaging several vehicles. The DPO, who sustained injuries during the clash, was rushed to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic development,” the Chairman said. “Violence solves nothing. I urge everyone in the community to maintain peace and allow security agencies to carry out their investigation without interference.”
Ya’u stated that the local government is working closely with security operatives to restore order and prevent further breakdown of law and order. He also appealed to community and religious leaders to engage youths in constructive dialogue and promote peace within the community.
He commended the Kano State Police Command for its quick response and expressed gratitude to the Commissioner of Police for visiting Rano in the aftermath of the incident.
The Chairman extended his condolences to the family of the late Abdullahi Musa, the Nigeria Police Force over the loss of the DPO, and the people of Nasarawa State.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace, security, and the overall development of Rano Local Government Area.
