A 27-year-old Nigerian man, Chukwuebuka Eweni, has been arrested by New Orleans police in connection with a deadly domestic stabbing that claimed the life of his father and left his two sisters injured.
The incident occurred on the evening of November 11, 2025, around 9:59 p.m. in the 8000 block of Pebble Street. Responding officers found 59-year-old Samuel Eweni, a computer science professor at Southern University at New Orleans, unresponsive with fatal stab wounds. His two adult daughters were also discovered at the scene suffering from stab injuries and were immediately rushed to a hospital.
Family members described the attack as sudden and shocking, revealing that the suspect has a documented history of mental illness but had never previously shown violent behavior. One sister has since been discharged, while the other remains in hospital in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
Following the incident, Chukwuebuka Eweni was located in neighboring Jefferson Parish and taken into custody. He is currently undergoing medical and psychiatric evaluation at a local facility.
The New Orleans Police Department has charged him with one count of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder. Authorities described the suspect as “armed and dangerous” during the initial search.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy and formally release the deceased’s identity and official cause of death after notifying next of kin.
The investigation remains ongoing.
