Imo State – Governor Hope Uzodimma has approved a grand reception to celebrate the exceptional performance of Imo State students at the recently concluded International STEM Olympiad held in Rome, Italy.
The governor’s decision follows the remarkable success of two Imo indigenes who won gold medals at the global competition. Eleven-year-old Onyedikachi Egejurum emerged as the world best in Mathematics in the primary category, while Don Anele Munachisom clinched gold in the Science category at the secondary level. The two were among three Nigerians who secured gold medals in the prestigious olympiad.
The students were sponsored by education advocate and Educare CEO, Alex Onyia, after they distinguished themselves at the South-east zonal edition of the competition.
In a congratulatory message, Governor Uzodimma commended the young champions for making the state and the nation proud.
“We have invested heavily on education from the primary level to secondary and to the tertiary and we are happy that those investments are yielding fruits,” the governor said.
He expressed appreciation to individuals and organisations, particularly Alex Onyia, who identified, nurtured, and sponsored the students, describing them as “partners in the educational advancement of the state.”
As part of efforts to encourage and develop more talents, Governor Uzodimma announced that a grand reception has been approved in honour of the students.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to the infrastructural and academic rebirth of the education sector in Imo State.
The planned reception is expected to serve as a morale booster for other students and underscore the state government’s focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.
