The Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) in Lagos has invited Segun Olawoye, publisher of Objectv Media (also known as ObjecTV), for a fact-finding interview scheduled for Tuesday, 22 September 2026.
The invitation letter, dated 18 September 2026 and signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Matthew Obiuwevbi on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, PSFU, was addressed to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Objectv Media in Sangotedo, Lagos State. It states that the unit is investigating a case in which Olawoye’s name “featured prominently.”
The letter directs him to appear at the PSFU headquarters at 13 Milverton Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, at 11:00 am prompt. He is to report through the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Secretariat, and contact the Investigating Police Officer on 08053…..92 upon arrival.
The police describe the invitation as fact finding, stress that cooperation will be appreciated, and note that his presence will assist “in advancing the course of Criminal Justice delivery and fairness.” Olawoye is at liberty to attend with his lawyer.
Olawoye publicly disclosed the invitation through Objectv Media’s X account. In posts dated 19 and 21 September, he framed the summons as connected to his organisation’s reporting on the handling of public projects involving the Federal Ministry of Works and the contractor Laralek (also referred to as Laralek Ultimate or Laralek Construction). One post carried the message: “Public Invitation! Join Us Tomorrow As Ministry Of Works Will Be Backing LARALEK Against Public Reportage Or Criticism Of Public Projects’ Handling…” He invited members of the public to accompany him to the PSFU office.
Objectv Media has repeatedly published videos and commentary critical of Laralek’s work on the Ota-Idiroko road corridor and the Oju-Ore bridge in Ogun State, a federal project under the Ministry of Works.
The coverage has highlighted delays, changes in construction methods (including the removal of interlocking paving stones after earlier installation), traffic hardship for residents and motorists, and questions about quality and supervision. Residents and local stakeholders have also voiced similar concerns about the pace and standard of the works, which were awarded after an earlier tax-credit arrangement with another firm was discontinued.
In mid-September 2026, the Federal Ministry of Works conducted an inspection of the Oju-Ore bridge. Officials, including the Director of Bridges, Highways and Road Designs, stated that the structure had passed required integrity tests and met engineering standards. A representative of Laralek affirmed that construction followed approved designs and that independent tests confirmed compliance.
Olawoye has a prior public disagreement with Works Minister David Umahi dating to early 2026, centred on a recorded meeting related to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway realignment and property impacts. He previously stated that if any harm came to him, the minister should be held responsible. No direct official comment from the Ministry of Works or Laralek on the current PSFU invitation has been publicly issued as of the morning of 22 September.
The PSFU, a specialised section of the Force Criminal Investigation Department based in Ikoyi, handles complex fraud investigations. Similar fact-finding invitations from the same unit, also signed by DCP Obiuwevbi, have previously been issued to other online media platforms.
Olawoye has maintained that the public has a legitimate interest in information about the execution of public infrastructure projects. As of the scheduled appearance time, he was expected to honour the invitation.
