Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has urged the Nigeria Police Force to prioritise professionalism, intelligence-led operations and digital technology as it prepares to manage security during the 2027 general elections.
Uzodimma made the call while addressing the 6th Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO 2026) at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention Centre in Owerri. The gathering is themed “Developing a Nigeria Police Map for Effective Management of Security During Elections.”
He said professionalism remains critical if the police are to earn public confidence and secure greater cooperation from citizens. The governor also stressed the need for intelligence-driven policing and the effective deployment of digital tools to strengthen security arrangements ahead of the polls.
Uzodimma praised the reform efforts of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu and argued for decentralised policing, including the creation of state police. He added that any such system must include strong safeguards to prevent political abuse.
The governor assured the force and other security agencies of continued support from the Imo State government in the form of logistics, welfare packages and operational resources needed to maintain peace in the state.
