The Anambra State Government has released a document approving N363.381 million as the second tranche of salary arrears for workers, pensioners and next of kin of the defunct Anambra State Water Corporation and the Anambra State Environmental Protection Agency.
The amount is meant to clear part of the entitlements the government says were left unpaid by the administration of former governor Peter Obi. The Anambra State New Media Office published the document on X on Friday, a day after Obi appeared on Arise Television and denied borrowing money from any bank.
The document, dated May 24, 2025, was signed by the then Head of Service, Dame Theodora Okwy Igwegbe, and addressed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo. It states that the payment forms part of the terms of settlement reached on February 6, 2024, after the government resolved the matter out of court with the workers’ union.
“That the agreed second tranche payment of Three Hundred and Sixty-Three Million, Three Hundred and Eighty-One Thousand Naira only (N363,381,000.00) is due for disbursement in line with the Terms of Settlement signed on 6th February 2024,” Igwegbe wrote.
According to the document, the second tranche was scheduled for disbursement in 2026 and would be processed through the state government’s payroll system via a dedicated account. The Head of Service said the payment would reinforce the administration’s commitment to social justice, workers’ welfare and adherence to agreements with organised labour.
The Soludo administration said it had already paid the first tranche of the entitlements left unpaid during Obi’s eight years in office and has now moved on the second.
