The Arewa Youth Council has strongly criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his recent remarks against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing his actions as bitter, hypocritical, and driven by frustration over repeated failures at the presidential polls.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Kaduna, the President of the Council, Comrade Adams Reuben, accused Atiku of attempting to rebrand himself as a reformer despite his controversial past as head of the National Council on Privatisation.
“It is both laughable and shameful that Atiku, who oversaw the reckless sale of Nigeria’s key national assets to close associates, now seeks to pose as a moral authority,” Reuben stated. “He may be suffering from senility or early-stage brain fatigue, brought on by years of electoral defeat.”
Reuben questioned Atiku’s credibility in criticizing President Tinubu, citing the former Vice President’s role in the privatization of major public institutions, including Nigeria Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) and the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON), which he claimed left millions of Nigerians worse off.
“He is trying to erase that legacy by forming a so-called coalition and attacking the current administration, but Nigerians are not fooled,” Reuben said.
Reacting to Atiku’s recent push for a political coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Arewa Youth Council dismissed the move as another failed venture.
“This coalition is nothing more than a gathering of political orphans — individuals desperate for relevance. It’s a failed train going nowhere, with Atiku as both conductor and sole passenger,” Reuben remarked.
The group praised President Tinubu for securing the presidency on his first attempt, attributing his success to Nigerians’ belief in his leadership, intellect, and ability to take tough decisions.
“Atiku has run for president six times and lost. He still believes Nigeria owes him the presidency? Nigerians have moved on — it’s time he does the same,” Reuben asserted.
The statement concluded with a warning from the Arewa Youth Council that it would continue to resist attempts by political figures to sow division, rewrite history, or manipulate public sentiment in the name of opposition.
