Suspected bandits have killed 12 vigilante members in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
A resident, Nasiru Abubakar, said that the attack occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
According to Abubakar, the local vigilantes had been alerted about an impending attack and mobilized to confront the gunmen in an attempt to rescue kidnapped community members. However, the bandits ambushed them, killing 12 vigilantes and injuring nine others.
Efforts to obtain comments from the Zamfara State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Yazeed Abubakar, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
