The Labour Party has condemned the recent massacre in Benue State, describing the killings of over 100 people as a national disgrace and a sign of deep leadership failure.
In a statement released Monday, the party’s National Caretaker Committee Chair, Senator Nenadi Usman, decried the violence that claimed the lives of women, children, displaced persons, and security operatives, with entire communities left in ruins.
“These were not just statistics. They were human beings—children who should have been safe, mothers laid in mass graves, and fathers cut down while defending their homes,” Usman said.
Calling the attacks “a fresh wave of senseless killings,” she demanded an immediate deployment of security forces to vulnerable communities across Nigeria’s North Central region. She also called for a full investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators, regardless of their status or connections.
“The boldness of the attackers and the helplessness of the victims expose a dangerous gap in leadership and accountability,” she stated. “This is not just a Benue crisis—it is a stain on the conscience of the nation.”
The Labour Party urged a swift and coordinated humanitarian response, including food relief, shelter, medical care, and trauma support for survivors.
Senator Usman also called on Nigerians to go beyond routine condemnations and pressure leaders into real action. “Silence and indifference only embolden violent actors,” she warned.
“To the grieving families, I mourn with you. To the widows, orphans, and devastated communities—your cries are heard, and your demand for justice must not be ignored,” Usman said.
She reaffirmed the Labour Party’s commitment to advocating for policies that prioritize the safety and dignity of all Nigerians, especially those in rural and conflict-prone areas.
“Nigeria cannot continue like this,” she concluded.
