Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has called on the Nigerian Senate to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing his inability to safeguard citizens following the recent massacre in Benue State.
Yesufu made the call on Monday in response to the killing of over 200 people in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State by suspected terrorists.
Criticizing Tinubu’s reaction to the incident, Yesufu described his remarks as unpresidential and insensitive. In a post on her X (formerly Twitter) account, she accused the president of shifting blame instead of taking responsibility.
“Now that we have established beyond all reasonable doubt that Mr. Tinubu cannot provide leadership for his party and definitely not the country he rigged election to govern, what is Senate President Godswill Akpabio going to do?” Yesufu wrote.
“Isn’t it time for impeachment proceedings to be on the table?
“This is the kind of statement you write when you are a certificate forger-in-chief and not a commander-in-chief! Lord have mercy. Over 200 of your citizens are killed, and you are blaming community leaders for their utterances? No legitimate president will do that. What an utter shame.”
The killings in Benue have sparked widespread outrage, with citizens and rights groups demanding accountability and urgent action from the federal government.
