BOMADI, Delta State — Community leaders in Bomadi Urban have assured residents and traders, especially Igbo business owners, of stepped-up measures against rising burglaries in the Bomadi-Overside commercial district.
Chairman Mr. Famous Ebiare said the community would take the issue to the Bomadi Local Government Security Council and push for the creation of vigilante posts to deter theft and improve safety.
The assurance follows repeated break-ins targeting shops in the area, many owned by Igbo traders. Bomadi-Overside serves as a key trading hub for several riverine communities, making security of lives and property a priority, Ebiare noted.
“We sympathise with those whose shops have been burgled. As a community, we have resolved to take decisive steps to address the situation,” he said. “I will present the matter at the Local Government Security Council meeting and propose the establishment of vigilante posts within the community to improve security.”
Ebiare also clarified the community’s official name is Bomadi-Overside, rejecting earlier references to it as “Esenaebe.” He confirmed Mr. Wareka-emi Osuobeni as the duly elected chairman and stated there is no parallel leadership structure.
Accurate identification of the community and its leaders remains important, he added, as efforts continue to tackle the security challenges affecting local businesses.
