A political earthquake is shaking Akwa Ibom State as several governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) arrive in Uyo to welcome Governor Umo Eno, who has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling party.
Among the APC heavyweights present at the Akwa Ibom Government House are the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as well as Governors Bassey Otu (Cross River), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), and Dapo Abiodun (Ogun).
Also in attendance are Governors Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), and Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), signaling a united front as the APC strengthens its grip in the South-South.
Governor Eno’s defection, though long speculated, was confirmed earlier this week during a town hall meeting in Ikot Abasi. “It is time to move,” Eno declared, adding that aligning the state with the APC-led federal government was a strategic decision taken after wide consultations.
The move marks a major political shift in Akwa Ibom, which has been a PDP stronghold for decades.
