Residents of Agan community in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, were thrown into chaos on Thursday evening following a deadly attack by suspected herdsmen.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants invaded the community around 6 p.m., opening fire on residents and setting several houses ablaze.
The attack, which lasted for hours without any immediate response from security agencies, left several people feared dead and many others injured.
Located just minutes from Makurdi town, Agan was quickly deserted as terrified residents fled to safety amid the sound of gunfire and rising smoke.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident at the time of this report.
