The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed a letter sent by Governor Simi Fubara to the Rivers State House of Assembly regarding the state’s budget presentation, calling it “useless.”
Wike, who previously served as Rivers State governor, made this statement during a media chat on Wednesday. His remarks follow an ultimatum issued by Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule, who gave Fubara 48 hours to re-present the 2025 budget.
Amaewhule’s demand came after a Supreme Court ruling by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, which ordered the 27 lawmakers in the Assembly to resume legislative functions immediately.
Reacting to the situation, Wike accused Fubara of insincerity in his approach to resolving political tensions in the state. He advised the governor to foster a better relationship with the legislature rather than engaging in what he described as mere political theatrics.
“His letter to the Rivers House of Assembly is useless; he’s just playing to the gallery,” Wike stated.
