Burna Boy and Shakira teamed up to release “Dai Dai,” the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in a landmark collaboration that fused Afrobeats, dance-pop and reggaetón influences.
The nearly four-minute track featured a multilingual chorus delivered in Japanese, Spanish, French, English and Italian, built around the energetic chant: “Dai, dai, ikou, dale, allez, let’s go.” Designed as a celebration of football and global unity, the song blended diverse musical cultures with the spirit of the tournament.
Shakira opened the anthem with a heartfelt verse focused on identity and connection, while Burna Boy followed with lyrics promoting resilience, ambition and self-belief. The song also paid tribute to iconic football stars such as Diego Maradona, Paolo Maldini, Ronaldo Nazário, David Beckham, Kaká and Lionel Messi, while highlighting football-loving nations including Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, the United States and the Netherlands.
Proceeds from “Dai Dai” were allocated to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative targeting $100 million in donations by the end of the tournament to support education and football opportunities for children around the world.
Africa’s representation at the 2026 World Cup was also historic, with 10 nations qualifying for the tournament — Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Ghana, Algeria, Tunisia, Côte d’Ivoire, Cape Verde, South Africa and DR Congo.
Meanwhile, Rema and Tyla were among the performers lined up for the opening ceremony at SoFi Stadium on June 12, alongside global stars including Katy Perry, Future, Anitta and LISA.
The tournament was scheduled to begin on June 11 at Estadio Azteca and end on July 19 at MetLife Stadium, where Shakira was expected to co-headline the first FIFA World Cup final halftime show alongside Madonna and BTS.
