The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria (PCN) has refuted claims that an 80-year-old man’s corpse was abandoned near its premises in Calabar on Tuesday.
Reports initially suggested that the lifeless body of an unidentified elderly man was found near Eyamba Parish Presbyterian Church in Eyamba, Calabar South. A local newspaper, Pillar Today, published the report, sparking concerns within the community.
However, the PCN’s Director of Information, Rev. Nnoke Ibe, dismissed the allegations.
“Our enquiry shows that there is no case of any human corpse dumped within or around any of our church premises in Calabar,” he stated.
He clarified that, based on reliable information, the body was allegedly abandoned near a power transformer along Eyamba Street, which is a significant distance from the church.
The church authorities have called on the relevant government agencies to investigate the matter and swiftly remove the corpse to prevent potential health hazards in the area.
Meanwhile, residents have voiced concerns, noting that the deceased was unfamiliar to them and no relatives have come forward to claim the body.
