The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday ordered the remand of a retired Department of State Services (DSS) officer, Nwaogu Ihechimere Ezeakolam, in Kuje Correctional Centre pending his trial on terrorism related charges.
Justice Muhammed Umar issued the order after Ezeakolam was arraigned by the DSS on a four-count charge bordering on support for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The charges allege that between 2025 and 2026 in Abuja and Abia State, the defendant provided moral support and disseminated information about IPOB through social media platforms, joined the outlawed group, posted messages aimed at inducing members of the public to support it, and advanced its cause online.
Prosecutors said the alleged acts violated Sections 13, 25 and 26 of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, as well as Section 18 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 (as amended).
Ezeakolam pleaded not guilty to all counts. The court fixed October 29 for the commencement of trial and directed that he be held at Kuje Correctional Centre in the interim.
