The owners of a house destroyed by an explosion in Imo State, Mr. Ike Austine and his wife, Barr. Mrs. Cherish Amarachi Ike (née Ebomuche), have expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident that occurred on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
The couple, natives of Ibiasoegbe in Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State, revealed that the land on which they built their home was purchased as an investment.
Speaking with Bibncollar.com, Barr. Ike shared her anguish: “My husband received a call around 7:15 am on Sunday, informing him about an explosion at our new house. He initially dismissed it as a prank because we had visited the house the previous day and even made a video of it.”
She continued, “He asked me to accompany him to verify why someone would make such a claim. Upon arrival, we found the house completely destroyed, reduced to ruins. We looked at each other in utter disbelief, unable to comprehend what had happened. This was the house we planned to move into by the last week of February.”
A source who spoke to Bibncollar.com on the condition of anonymity narrated his experience: “At about 1 am, I noticed an object in the sky that resembled an airplane. Others who saw it claimed it looked like a drone. About 10 minutes after observing the object, we heard a loud explosion that sounded like a bomb. The blast affected houses in communities such as Amaulu, Umunjam, Eziome, Umuneke, and Obazu.”
The tragic incident reportedly occurred in Umuneke Ihitte Mbieri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, damaging properties across neighboring communities.
Barr. Cherish Amarachi Ike confirmed that they have reported the incident to the police but expressed serious concerns about the pace and approach of the investigation.
“We are deeply concerned about how the investigation is being handled and hope for a thorough and prompt response to uncover the cause of this devastation,” she said.
