Tragedy struck in the Abakpa community of Kaduna North Local Government Area on Tuesday when an explosion claimed the lives of two children and left three others injured.
The blast occurred near the old site of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna. The deceased have been identified as Imam, aged 13, and a six-year-old girl named Nasrin.
As of press time, the cause of the explosion remains unknown. However, security agencies have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the incident.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he was taking his bath when he heard the loud bang.
“The explosion happened very close to my house. I rushed out and saw Imam. I tried to take him to the hospital, but unfortunately, he died before we arrived,” he recounted.
Authorities are urging residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
