The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, has directed an immediate and thorough investigation into the killing of an Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) revenue officer, Mr. Oladipupo Akinola.
The incident took place on Friday, April 24, 2026, at NITEL Junction in Wuse 2, Abuja, while AMAC officials were carrying out routine enforcement duties.
The officers had stopped a Hilux vehicle to verify its 2026 operational permits and reportedly discovered that it was operating with expired 2025 documentation.
According to the AMAC Director of Operations, Comrade Shehu Shugaba, the situation escalated when occupants of the vehicle allegedly called for backup. Shortly after, individuals dressed in Civil Defence uniforms arrived at the scene, leading to a confrontation.
During the altercation, one of the officers reportedly opened fire, fatally shooting Akinola.
Following the incident, the suspects fled the scene in the vehicle.
AMAC authorities have strongly condemned the killing, describing it as a “cold-blooded murder,” while the FCT Police Command has assured the public that all those involved will be identified and brought to justice.
