Former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has described the perceived animosity among politicians as mere theatrics meant to entertain Nigerians.
Speaking during his 60th birthday thanksgiving service at St. Martins’ Catholic Church, Isan Ekiti, on Sunday, Fayemi dismissed the notion of deep-seated political rivalries, stating that many of these so-called conflicts exist only on social media.
“So, all these things you read on social media are for your entertainment, he said. “Many will wonder why Governor Segun Oni is here. During his birthday, I spent the entire day with him, and Governor Ayodele Fayose too would have been here if he was around”.
Fayemi stressed that despite political differences, Ekiti politicians remain united in their vision for the state.
“The vision we have always had is a state that is not divided by political affiliations. We might belong to different parties, but we are all members of one larger party-the Ekiti Progressive Party. Our governor is carrying on with that vision,” he said.
Reflecting on his journey, Fayemi expressed gratitude for reaching 60, describing himself as a product of grace.
“I have so many reasons to be thankful to God at 60,” he said. “I also appreciate our governor for making me proud. It could have been otherwise, but he is also a product of grace. That is why, despite the challenges that come with politics, we share a cordial relationship built on mutual love and respect.”
President Bola Tinubu led a host of dignitaries in celebrating Fayemi’s contributions to governance and national development. Tinubu praised Fayemi’s role in the 2013 merger that formed the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as his leadership during challenging economic times.
“As a two-term governor, he served the people amid severe economic challenges. There is no doubt he made his mark in Ekiti’s governance,” Tinubu stated. “Dr. Fayemi has exemplified service as an academic, author, administrator, and development expert. As he turns 60, I wish him continued health and fulfillment in the years ahead”.
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, described Fayemi as a leader dedicated to service and excellence.
“The only thing I want to say is thank you for your support and for guiding me. Thank you for all you have done for Ekiti people and your mentees worldwide. We are immensely proud of your achievements-60 years of progressive impact”, Oyegbanji said.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including former Ekiti governors Niyi Adebayo and Segun Oni, Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, and members of the National and State Assemblies. Others in attendance included former Minister of Education, Prof. Tunde Adeniran; Chairman of CAVISTA Holdings, John Olajide; and APC Ekiti State Chairman, Sola Elesin.
