Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has dismissed speculations about his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting he remains a member of the PDP despite the party’s internal crisis.
Speaking with journalists after a visit to President Bola Tinubu in Lagos, Fayose described the PDP as a “carcass,” citing the party’s prolonged leadership tussle and failure to resolve zoning issues ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
“Let me make it clear — Ayodele Fayose is not leaving the PDP for any political party. I’m 65 this year,” he stated. “It’s the choice of those who decided to move. Some say they admire what the president is doing, others believe the PDP is in serious trouble — and that, without doubt, is the gospel truth.”
Fayose noted that unless urgent action is taken, the PDP risks total collapse.
“If the party does not take corrective steps soon, it will become a complete carcass,” he warned. “I’m no longer on the frontline, and whatever little contribution I could make, I already did while in office.”
The former governor’s visit to Tinubu had sparked speculations about a possible defection, but Fayose insists his loyalty to the PDP remains intact — at least for now.
