Panic has spread across Odigbo community in Ondo State following the gruesome discovery of three headless corpses floating in a river along the Odigbo-Ore Old Road.
Residents were left horrified after locals stumbled upon the decomposing bodies, some of which were found lodged against the riverbanks. The incident has raised suspicions of ritual killings or kidnappings, with community members speculating that the victims may have been murdered elsewhere and dumped in the river.
A youth leader in the area, Mr. Sileola, expressed deep concern over the discovery. “I was shocked when I first heard about it over the phone. I rushed to the scene, hoping to identify the victims through their clothing or any visible signs, but all efforts proved unsuccessful,” he said.
He added that no cases of missing persons had been reported in the area prior to the incident, further fueling concerns that the bodies were brought from outside the community. He urged residents to remain vigilant and prioritize their safety.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, SP Olayinka Alayande, confirmed the incident and said the bodies had been evacuated to a morgue.
“I can confirm that three headless bodies were recovered from the river in Odigbo. Upon receiving the report, detectives from the Ore Division were dispatched to the scene, where the corpses were retrieved and taken to the General Hospital morgue,” he said.
Alayande added that community leaders and interest groups have been contacted to assist in identifying the victims. So far, no one has come forward with information, and the victims remain unidentified.
Police say investigations are ongoing, and they are calling on members of the public with any useful information to report to the nearest police station.
