A Federal High Court in Lagos has placed a disputed Victoria Island property under the control of a court-appointed receiver, restraining the developer from selling or otherwise dealing with it while a suit filed by former first lady Maryam Sani Abacha is pending.
Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa made the interim order on September 29, 2026, in Suit No. FHC/LAG/CS/1245/2026. Abacha is the plaintiff. Levitikal Realties & Construction Limited is the defendant. The property is at No. 68 Molade Okoya Thomas Street, off Ajose Adeogun Street, Victoria Island.
The judge barred the company, its directors, agents, representatives, servants and anyone acting through it from selling, transferring, assigning, mortgaging, leasing, charging, alienating or otherwise encumbering the property until the court hears Abacha’s motion for an interlocutory injunction. He also restrained the firm from any step calculated to interfere with, dissipate or prejudice the subject matter of the originating summons.
In the same order, Justice Lewis-Allagoa appointed the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court, or any officer of the court serving as Official Receiver, as receiver/manager. That officer is to take possession, custody and control of the property pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
The order followed an ex parte application Abacha filed on September 10 through her counsel, Adedayo Adesina, SAN. It sits against a Notice of Dispute and Request for Mediation and/or Arbitration dated September 7, concerning the same site.
Court processes describe the dispute as arising from a joint venture to develop a high-rise on the land. They state that the landowner later terminated the agreement over alleged fundamental breaches by Levitikal Realties & Construction Limited. The processes also indicate that the row has produced parallel proceedings, including the Federal High Court action and arbitration.
The property had already drawn the attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Media reports in August 2026 said EFCC operatives marked the Victoria Island development with a warning directing people to keep off amid an alleged investigation. Those reports did not record any final finding of wrongdoing against any party.
Justice Lewis-Allagoa directed the Nigeria Police Force, including the Inspector-General of Police, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, and the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State as well as the EFCC and other relevant agencies, to provide security and assistance to the applicant and the Deputy Sheriff of the Federal High Court in enforcing the orders.
The case has been adjourned to November 9, 2026.
