A late-night fire has destroyed properties worth millions of naira after engulfing twelve shops at the Mayegun Cement Store Market, Araromi, Agodi Gate area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The incident occurred on Thursday night, April 10, 2025, at Block A, No. 64 of the market.
Confirming the incident, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, said the agency received a distress call at exactly 11:02 p.m.
“Our fire personnel were immediately deployed to the scene. On arrival, we found several lock-up shops already ablaze. We quickly swung into action and successfully prevented the fire from spreading to nearby shops,” he said.
According to Akinyinka, a total of 12 shops were affected by the inferno, while property worth billions of naira was saved through prompt intervention.
He added that no lives were lost in the incident and attributed the cause of the fire to an electrical surge that ignited flammable materials nearby.
