At least four herders and nine cows were killed in two separate attacks that occurred on Tuesday in Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas of Plateau State. Five other individuals reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries during the incidents.
The latest violence erupted just hours after an earlier attack in Kopmur community, Mushere District of Bokkos, which claimed the lives of seven family members.
Confirming the incidents, the Plateau State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, said armed assailants shot and killed a herder while also opening fire on grazing cattle, resulting in the death of nine animals.
Babayo further disclosed that both the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and the Plateau State Police Command have been notified about the renewed wave of violence.
Plateau State has been facing escalating tensions marked by recurrent attacks on herders and ongoing clashes with various communities.
