Senate President Godswill Akpabio has denied allegations of sexual harassment made against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Akpabio addressed the claims on Wednesday during the Senate’s plenary session, following a one-week recess. Dismissing the accusations, he stated, “At no time did I ever harass any woman. I was raised very well by my late single mother, and I have always upheld respect for women. I was even awarded the most gender-friendly governor in Nigeria.”
However, shortly after Akpabio’s remarks, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan formally raised a petition under Senate Order 40, reiterating her allegations of sexual harassment and abuse of office. She sought permission to present the petition before the chamber.
The Senate subsequently referred the petition to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct for review, directing it to investigate the matter promptly.
