Former Abia State Governor and current Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, has revealed that he used his personal funds to finance the operations of the state during his time in office.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Kalu claimed he did not derive any financial benefit from his tenure as governor. Instead, he said his time in office came at a significant personal cost.
“I spent my own money running the state, just like I’m spending my money today as a senator,” Kalu said. “I used to finance the state. I never benefited anything from being governor — rather, I lost a lot of money.”
He further alleged that the federal government, under then-President Olusegun Obasanjo, targeted his businesses, contributing to his financial losses during his time in public office.
“For me, politics was even more dangerous under the Obasanjo administration. The federal government took over a lot of my businesses,” he added.
