Veteran Nollywood actor Ganiu Nofiu, popularly known as Alapini, has expressed deep regret over supporting President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.
Alapini, speaking in a recent interview on African A-List, said he and over 100 of his colleagues in the Yoruba movie industry campaigned extensively for Tinubu, abandoning their personal work for two months out of genuine belief in his leadership and past contributions to Lagos State and the film sector.
“We believed he was the messiah Nigeria needed. We campaigned out of love, not for financial gain. But two years into his administration, not only have we not been acknowledged, the country is also facing worsening economic hardship and insecurity,” he said.
The actor also voiced his disappointment over the lack of recognition or compensation for their efforts. He particularly criticised the President’s son, Seyi Tinubu, for allegedly neglecting the Southwest in his philanthropic efforts.
“Seyi Tinubu is paying hospital bills and donating in the North, but what about the Southwest? Are there no sick people here? Has he forgotten the old actors who walked under the sun campaigning for his father?” he asked.
Alapini’s comments reflect growing frustration among some of Tinubu’s early supporters, who say their sacrifices have gone unrecognised amidst the country’s economic challenges.
