The Supreme Egbesu Assembly (SEA), a traditional institution of the Ijaw people, has warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that it will deliver an unexpected response if Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is impeached.
SEA Chairman, Werinipre Noel Digifa, issued the statement while reacting to comments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, who recently declared that “heaven will not fall” if Fubara is removed from office.
“Heaven will not fall if Fubara is impeached. We won’t resort to violence either. But at the right time, we will show President Tinubu what one of his ‘best eleven’ has done to the Ijaw people,” Digifa stated.
He criticized Tinubu for allegedly failing to curb Wike’s actions, accusing the FCT Minister of displaying recklessness and arrogance toward the Ijaw nation.
“Tinubu should be held responsible for Wike’s conduct. He has turned the judiciary into his personal estate, manipulating it to serve his interests. Wike preempted the Supreme Court judgment, and it went exactly as he wanted,” Digifa alleged.
Despite their grievances, Digifa emphasized that the Ijaw people would not resort to violence if Fubara is removed. However, he strongly condemned Wike’s perceived arrogance and verbal attacks on the Ijaw ethnic group, citing an African proverb as a warning against reckless confrontation.
He also blamed former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience Jonathan, for supporting Wike’s rise to power, arguing that they overlooked more credible candidates.
