The Imo State Police Command has arrested four suspected kidnappers following a series of abductions in Irete and other communities in Owerri West Local Government Area. The operation, carried out in a forested area, also led to the recovery of arms.
According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal activities in the state. He stated that the operation was based on credible intelligence, which led officers to the hideout of the suspects in the Irete axis.
The suspects have been identified as Sulieman Ahmed (26), Mohammed Salisu (31), and Gambo Jefta (26), all from Jigawa State, as well as Gabriel Ogbuzuru from Ebonyi State. A search of their hideout resulted in the recovery of three fabricated guns, six rounds of live cartridges, and three machetes.
DSP Okoye confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and will be prosecuted. He also revealed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, led further combing operations on March 3, 2025, in pursuit of additional fleeing suspects.
To strengthen security in the region, CP Danjuma has intensified patrols and reinforced collaboration with local vigilantes. He reassured residents of the police command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring a safer Imo State.
The police urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest station or through the command’s emergency hotlines: 0803 477 3600 and 08148024755.
