The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called on the Imo State Government and prominent Igbo leaders to intervene in the ongoing land dispute between Evangelist Ebuka Obi of Zion Ministry and communities in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State.
In a statement signed by IPOB spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group stressed that the relocation of Zion Ministry’s headquarters from Lagos to Imo State aligns with IPOB’s longstanding appeal for Igbos to return their investments home. However, IPOB warned that unresolved land disputes could undermine such efforts.
“The global community of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, urges the Imo State Government and other responsible Igbo leaders to urgently mediate in the land conflict involving Evangelist Ebuka Obi and some communities in Ngor Okpala,” the statement read.
IPOB emphasized that while it does not involve itself in civil or land-related disputes, the current conflict poses a threat to the broader goal of encouraging Igbos to reinvest in their homeland.
“For people to bring their businesses and ministries home, land must be available. Zion Ministry’s move to Imo State is commendable and should not be derailed by disputes that can be resolved amicably,” the group noted.
According to IPOB, Evangelist Obi and his ministry consulted with the local communities before approaching the Imo State Government, and the group insists that such efforts should not be ignored.
“No governor should allocate communal land without the community’s involvement. All stakeholders must be involved in negotiations to prevent conflicts,” IPOB stated.
To resolve the issue, IPOB recommended the following steps:
•The Imo State Government should revisit the land to verify that Zion Ministry has not exceeded the approved area.
•Individuals inciting the dispute for personal gain should desist.
•Those funding or coordinating protests around the issue must stop.
•Evangelist Obi and his ministry should re-engage the host communities in dialogue.
•Igbo leaders should mediate to ensure a peaceful and fair resolution.
IPOB concluded by urging all parties to act with maturity and prioritize peace, unity, and the economic development of Alaigbo.
