Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has called on President Bola Tinubu to officially declare Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola the winner of the June 12, 1993, presidential election.
In a statement on Friday, Frank argued that this recognition is long overdue, especially since former military president General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), who annulled the election, has acknowledged the legitimacy of the results.
During the launch of his book, A Journey in Service, Babangida admitted that Abiola won the election and attributed the annulment to pressure from then-military ruler General Sani Abacha and other forces.
Frank urged Tinubu to act without delay, stating, “Tinubu should waste no more time in officially declaring Abiola President and granting him all the recognition and entitlements of a former head of state.”
He further suggested that Tinubu send a bill to the National Assembly to legally validate the June 12, 1993, election results and formally recognize Abiola as the winner.
“The Tinubu was at the forefront of the June 12 struggle, fighting to ensure Abiola was recognized as President. Now, he has the power to make it official,” Frank added.
