Chairmen and councillors elected in the October 15, 2022, local government election in Osun State resumed at 14 local government secretariats across the state on Wednesday.
As of 10 a.m., the officials, accompanied by numerous members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had resumed at secretariats in Ila, Ede South, Ife Central, Ife East, Ife North, Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Boripe, Oriade, and Obokun. Others include Ejigbo, Iwo, Ayedire, and Boripe.
Former Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Jamiu Olawumi, confirmed the resumption and noted that no incidents of violence had been recorded.
“We have 14 as of 10 a.m. Security has been top-notch, with personnel from the police tactical team, armed squad of civil defence, and the DSS stationed around the secretariats,” Olawumi stated.
He commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for maintaining order but cautioned against the presence of suspected thugs in the state.
“They should remove the thugs they brought here. If you move around, you’ll see unfamiliar faces. The government should not allow militants and cultists to harm Osun people,” he added.
Olawumi emphasized that the chairmen and councillors were prepared to work with the state government despite operating at different levels of governance. He also urged Governor Adeleke to engage with the President, Chief of Staff, or the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure the enforcement of the court judgment that validated their election.
“Our chairmen and councillors are ready to serve. The governor must take necessary steps to ensure the development of Osun within his tenure,” he said.
