The Kano State Government has dispatched a high-powered delegation to Edo State to engage with authorities following the tragic killing of 16 northern travelers in Uromi.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, disclosed this development, emphasizing the delegation’s mandate to collaborate with the Edo State Government in identifying the perpetrators and ensuring justice for the victims.
Waiya described the incident as a “barbaric act” and reiterated the government’s commitment to securing justice.
“The Kano State Government is deeply saddened by the recent tragic incident in Edo State, which claimed the lives of innocent individuals, the majority of whom were Kano indigenes. This unfortunate event has caused significant concern among the government and people of the state,” he stated.
In response, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the immediate deployment of a high-powered delegation to Edo. According to Waiya, the delegation will engage with the Edo State Government, liaise with the Hausa community leadership, and contribute to efforts aimed at apprehending those responsible for the attack.
He further stressed that the victims, who were traveling from Port Harcourt to Uromi on a legitimate journey, deserved justice, and the Kano State Government remained committed to ensuring their rights were upheld.
The government also urged residents to remain calm and refrain from actions that could escalate tensions. Additionally, it extended heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and prayed for the peaceful repose of their souls.
