The factional National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), Abayomi Arabambi, has described Nollywood actor Kenneth Okonkwo’s resignation from the party as “ good riddance to bad rubbish” and a relief.
Okonkwo announced his resignation from the party on Tuesday, citing LP’s lack of readiness for the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Arabambi dismissed the actor’s exit as inconsequential, insisting that the party remains united and focused on unseating the Bola Tinubu administration in 2027.
“We wish Mr. Kenneth Okonkwo well. His resignation is good riddance to bad rubbish. He should not speak about the Labour Party anymore, Arabambi said.
He denied claims of leadership crises within LP, stating that the party is not at risk of collapsing.
”There is no leadership crisis in the Labour Party. The party is not going into extinction. It is just a figment of the imaginations of most of our detractors,” he added.
Arabambi also accused Okonkwo of being politically aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that he had worked against LP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar.
“The APC man has been working with President Tinubu before that is- Kenneth Okonkwo. He worked against Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 elections. We wish him well and we will meet in 2027”, claimed.
He further stated that LP will not tolerate political disloyalty ahead of the next general election, adding that the party leadership is actively addressing internal issues.
“But in 2027, we are not going to have such political rascality in our party. The National Chairman is on a reconciliatory mission, which is why you see a lot of people being jittery,” he said.
