Security operatives in Taraba State have successfully rescued an Israeli national, Gil Itamar, who was abducted by armed criminals in Atim Community along the Takum/Chanchangi Road.
The rescue operation, carried out by the Taraba State Police Command in collaboration with the military and local hunters, resulted in a fierce gun battle that forced the kidnappers to abandon their captive and flee.
Confirming the operation in a statement on Friday, the Public Relations Officer of the Taraba State Police Command, James Lashen, detailed the events leading to the rescue.
“On April 3, 2025, at about 10:30 a.m., we received a distress call from one Alhaji Saidu, a staff member of SCC Company in Takum, reporting that an Israeli national, Mr. Gil Itamar, had been kidnapped by armed hoodlums in Atim Community along the Takum/Chanchangi Road,” Lashen stated.
Acting swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Takum mobilized a team comprising officers from the 67 Police Mobile Force (PMF), military operatives, and local hunters. The team stormed the kidnappers’ suspected hideout, engaging them in a heated exchange of gunfire.
“Our operatives conducted an intense cordon and search operation, which led to the successful rescue of the victim at Kofai Ahmadu. After a prolonged gunfight, the kidnappers were forced to retreat, abandoning the hostage,” Lashen added.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Taraba, Bretet Emmanuel, praised the security forces for their swift response and bravery.
“We remain committed to ridding the state of criminal elements. I urge residents to cooperate with security agencies and report any suspicious activities. Taraba will not be a safe haven for criminals,” CP Emmanuel warned.
