The kidnappers holding the Principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mrs Rachael Alamu, have reportedly refused to negotiate with her family, insisting instead on direct communication with government officials.
Her husband, Professor Wole Alamu of the Department of Forest Resources Management at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), disclosed that the family has been unable to engage the abductors, who communicate solely through WhatsApp messages.
According to him, the kidnappers made it clear that they were not interested in discussing her release with family members, leaving them powerless in the situation.
Mrs Alamu was abducted on May 15 when gunmen attacked the school, killing some teachers and kidnapping several students and staff members. Her vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, was also set ablaze during the assault.
Professor Alamu recounted that he and his wife had left home separately for work on the day of the attack when he received a distress call around 9:20 a.m. informing him of her abduction. He immediately returned to the area and discovered the devastating aftermath of the incident.
He revealed that the family has not had any direct contact with Mrs Alamu since her abduction, apart from videos allegedly recorded under duress and released by her captors.
Despite the ordeal, Professor Alamu commended the Oyo State Government for its support, expressing appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde for standing by the family throughout the crisis.
He also disclosed that the WhatsApp numbers used by the kidnappers had been submitted to security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), in the hope of aiding ongoing investigations.
Describing his wife as a dedicated educator, Professor Alamu said she had been committed to serving the rural community since her deployment to the school in August 2024, travelling approximately 62 kilometres daily. He maintained that she had no conflict with anyone in the community and was solely focused on advancing education and development in the area.
