A Kogi State High Court sitting in Lokoja has affirmed the nomination, selection, and appointment of HRH Ajofe Chief Jonah Idris Okai as the rightful occupant of the Onu Abocho throne.
Delivering the judgment on Thursday, Justice Folorunsho Ajayi ruled that the selection process carried out by the kingmakers and its subsequent approval by the Kogi State Government were valid and in order.
In a consolidated judgment on five suits challenging Okai’s nomination, the court declared that his appointment was legitimate and should stand. Consequently, all suits filed against his ascension were dismissed for lacking merit.
Justice Ajayi also ruled that the victorious party was entitled to costs. However, in the spirit of unity, the court refrained from awarding any.
Reacting to the verdict, Prof. Benjamin Ogwo, speaking on behalf of Okai, expressed gratitude to the court and urged all parties to embrace peace for the progress of the community.
Similarly, Barr. S.O. Ayobe, representing J.J. Usman, SAN, who appeared for the Attah Igala and Chairman of the Igala Area Traditional Council, lauded the judgment, stating that it would put an end to the prolonged legal tussle over the Onu Abocho stool.
In his remarks, Onu Abocho, Ajofe Chief Jonah Idris Okai, extended appreciation to all ruling houses and the people of Biraidu, emphasizing that the victory belonged to the entire community.
It is worth noting that a previous suit challenging Okai’s position was also dismissed on February 18, 2025, by the same high court for lack of merit.
