The Lagos State University (LASU) has called for swift justice following the gruesome murder of its former student, Adedamola Ogunbode, popularly known as Horlar, who was allegedly killed for ritual purposes by a prophet in the Ojo area of Lagos.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the university’s Deputy Registrar and Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations, Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, expressed the institution’s deep sorrow over the tragic incident.
Ogunbode, a 28-year-old Political Science Education graduate, had been missing since January 16, 2025. His remains were later discovered by security agencies, buried within a church compound with signs of mutilation.
The primary suspect, a self-proclaimed prophet, has been arrested and is currently assisting the police with their investigation.
Condemning the brutal killing, LASU management extended heartfelt condolences to Ogunbode’s family, friends, and colleagues, describing his death as a significant loss to the university community. The institution urged law enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice without delay.
LASU also advised students to remain calm while investigations continue and emphasized the importance of vigilance against suspicious activities.
Reaffirming its commitment to student safety, the university pledged full cooperation with law enforcement agencies to maintain a secure learning environment.
