Popular singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has withdrawn his earlier criticism of the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Abba, acknowledging the efforts of security agencies in maintaining peace amid the ongoing local government crisis.
In a post on his X page on Monday, Davido urged security operatives to intensify efforts in ensuring peace and stability ahead of the upcoming local government elections in the state.
The singer had initially accused the Osun State police chief of failing to uphold the rule of law following violent clashes that erupted across the state’s 30 local government areas, leading to the deaths of three people.
However, after reassessing the situation, Davido admitted that he had overlooked the role of the police in handling the crisis.
“I now see that the issue is beyond the Commissioner of Police or other security chiefs. The needless killings today angered me so deeply that I thought they should have been nipped in the bud. Yet, I can see that the security agencies, led by the Commissioner of Police, put in their best and deserve commendation,” he stated.
He further acknowledged that the police commissioner and other security commanders had been working tirelessly to maintain order, a fact he had previously failed to recognize.
“At this point, the contributions of the police commissioner were not fully appreciated by me. This is a grave oversight, and I want to declare that his support for the rule of law and the protection of peace in Osun State is hereby acknowledged and appreciated,” he added.
Davido also called on Osun residents and political stakeholders to ensure a peaceful election on Saturday, February 22, emphasizing the need for security agencies to redouble their efforts in maintaining order.
His remarks come after he had earlier taken to social media to call out the police chief, using strong language in a series of tweets. However, following his reassessment, he has now pledged support for efforts to sustain peace in the state.
